Geography at St Richard's

"The study of Geography is about more than just memorising places on a map. It's about understanding the complexity of our world."   - Barack Obama

Geography in Key Stage 2

During Key Stage 2 pupils extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area investigating a variety of people, places and environments at different scales in the United Kingdom, Europe, North and South America. They will learn about the location and characteristics of the world's most significant human and physical features. Children will use their geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to start to make links between different places in the world and ask geographical questions. They will find out how people affect the environment and how they are affected by it investigating their own global footprint. Children will carry out geographical enquiry inside and outside the classroom using geographical skills and fieldwork. They will use the eight points of a compass, four and six figure grid references, symbols and keys to build on their knowledge of places.  Children will use fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present human and physical features in the local area. They will record this using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans, graphs and digital technology.
