Music at St Richard's

"Music is the art of thinking with sounds"   - Jules Combarieu

Music in Key Stage 2

In Key Stage 2, children are taught to sing and play instruments with increasing confidence and control. They will play in solo and ensemble contexts using both their voices and musical instruments. Through listening with attention to detail, children will begin to appreciate and understand a wide range of music which is drawn from different traditions, composers and musicians. This will develop the children's understanding of the history of music.

Children will begin to develop an understanding of musical composition and will begin to manipulate ideas within musical structure reproducing sounds from aural memory.

Year 3 have learned a song all about muscles and bones in the body. The children explored the structure of the song and from this created actions to the lyrics. The children then performed this as a whole class ensemble.
